Summer Plans
Lions Club Auction - will need help from Scouts to run items back and forth from the barn to the auction.  Saturday, July 22.  Call Mr. Miller if you want to volunteer.

Firefighter Ceremony Color Guard - Be at the Malletts Bay Firehouse at 8:45.  Full Class A uniform.

Annual Planning Conference - At the Hazelett Conference room, 9:45am.  Be prepared to represent your patrols and bring ideas for activities for next year's calendar.

Court of Honor - May 31 barbecue at Bayside park.  Invite your parents.  6:00 pm.  The committee is hosting most food and drinks, but we ask patrols to provide:  Wolves - Salads, Flying Eagles - Chips, Green Moose - Desserts.  Invite your family.


Troop Meeting May 17, 2006
Troop Elections - Speeches were heard tonight.  Election will be at next week's meeting.  Those of you that cannot be present to vote may cast an absentee ballot via email to the troop at troop601@adelphia.net.  Your vote must in by the end of the day, Tuesday May 23.  The two candidates are Daniel L and Sean M.  Change of the guard will take place at the upcoming Court of Honor.

Troop Meeting May 10, 2006
Camporee - Meet at the firehouse at 5:00pm, Friday, May 12.  Make sure you have rain gear and boots.  And your uniform.

Troop Elections - Those interested in running for Senior Patrol Leader be prepared to present speeches at the next Troop meeting.  Everybody can be replaced.

Court of Honor - May 31, instead of our regular meeting, 6:00pm at the gazebo at Bayside Park.  Finnish off those outstanding advancement issues in time for the Court of Honor.

Annual Planning Conference - June 10.  Start thinking of what improvements you can contribute to the annual plan.

Fall Camporee Planning - Patch design, activity choices, any planning ideas are to be discussed at upcoming meetings.

Next Week - Guest speaker,  a Colchester school board member will discuss school funding as part of Citizenship in the Community merit badge effort.

Troop Meeting, May 3, 2006
Summer Camp Mt. Norris - The final payment for Early Bird savings is due at NEXT WEEK's MEETING.  If you payed $125 already, you need to remit $120 for the $245 Early Bird Special Price.  The regulat price is $275.  SAVE $30.00 !!!

Youth Leadership Training - is a full week of camp, at Mt. Norris July 1-7, the week before our troop is scheduled at Norris.  See Mr. Miller if you are interested.

Fall Camporee Planning - For next week's meeting please think of 3 activities and one cooking competition idea for discussion.   Write them down and bring them in  Also, if you are interested in designing a patch, submit some artwork for consideration at next week's meeting.

Court of Honor - May 31.  Coming right up!  We will plan an advancement night just before but you should begin wrapping up achievable advancement goals NOW!  Make sure things are entered into the patrol books!

Spring Camporee - May 12,13&14 - Meal planning next week.  We are manning an activity:  Match Lighting and Boil Water in a Plastic Bag.

Troop Elections - Are coming up.  Think about changes of leadership, both at the Troop (SPL ASPL) and the Patrol (PL, APL) levels.  Leadership is key to advancement.

World Scout Jamboree - July 27-Aug 8, 2007.  In England.  Mr. Miller has a pamphlet, if you are interested.

Family Life Merit Badge - Complete the assignmnets in time for advancement at Court of Honor.

Next Troop Meeting - Coffehouse / Open Mike.  American Idiot or American Idol?  You be the judge!

Spring Camporee - Theme is Wild, Wild West.  Think of an activity the troop could help put on for a 45 minute activity period.

Shooting Sports Campout - Muster at the firehouse at 8:30, Saturday, April 1.  We will return around noon, on Sunday.  Bring sleeping bag, change of clothes, rain gear, warm layer, mud/snow boots and mess kit.

Rocket Launch - This Saturday, March 25, Airport Park, at 12:00 noon.

New Youth Leadership Training - To be held at Camp Norris, July 1-7.  This program replaces the Junior Leadership Training program previously held every two years.  Promises to be a valuable opportunity for those scouts interested in learning the leadership ropes.  Scouts must be First Class, 13 or older. See Mr. Miller if you are interested.

Citizenship in the Community - WILL START NEXT WEEK.  Be prepared to take on the Eagle Required Merit Badge.


Troop Meeting, March 15, 2006
Rocket Launch - Next Saturday, March 25, Airport Park, 9:00 am.  Get your rockets finished, enter the contest (longest time aloft).  Engines will be provided day of the launch.

Shooting Sports Weekend - April 1-2, campout at Norris, rifle range session Saturday afternoon.  Cooking and meal planning requirements are a good candidate for this weekend's activities, besides a troop session in the rifle range.  Bring your sleds, there may still be snow.  Food planning at next week's meeting.

Spring Camporee - May 12, at Grand Isle State Park.  Troop 623 of Richmond is hosting the event and they are asking any interested troop to organize an activity for the Camporee.  The theme of this Camporee is the Wild, Wild, West and activity periods will be 45 minutes long.  Put your heads together to come up with an activity for the Camporee.  Troop 601 (YOUR TROOP) will be hosting the Fall Camporee this coming October and will be in a similar position, looking for other troops to host activities.

Summer Camp - Early Bird camp dues down payments are being collected until next meeting, $125.  Scouts can use scout account funds, cash or checks.  Sign up NOW for summer camp.  Camp fees increase after next week.

Mt. Norris Summer Camp Early Bird Discount - Get your $125.00 deposit in to Mr. Lamothe by next week's meeting to ensure this most attractive rate for summer camp.  You save a substantial amount.

Pancake Breakfast - Sunday, March 18.  You need to pick up the items being donated by next week.  Please call Mr. Claremont if your assigned vendor makes changes to your assigned product.  Plan to sign up for service time slots at next week's meeting. 

Rocket Launch - Saturday, March 25, 9:00 am, either at Bayside or Sandbar.  Stay tuned.

Citizenship in the Community - Mr. Lamothe is offering a sure path to obtaining this Eagle required merit badge.  Fill out a blue card now !!!

Swim Session #3, Pool Session  #2 - Meet once again at the YMCA for our pool session which runs 7:00 to 8:30.  Senior Patrol will demonstrate emergency flotation methods using clothes and you will have a chance to demonstrate rope rescue techniques.  In addition to free swim and water basketball ...

Pizza sale - Next Saturday, February 4, 10:00 to 2:00 at the Colchester High School Cafeteria.  The first four scouts to let me know that they are participating get the job.

Eagle Court of Honor - for Nate F. to be held Saturday, February 18, at 7:00 pm at the Colchester Meeting House.  Make sure Mrs. Clayton knows who is signed up for what.

Ski Trip - Now planned for a day during February vacation, to Jay Peak.  Mrs. Clayton will have further details.

Troop Meeting, January 11, 2006
Bottle Drive - Meet at the firehouse at 9:00.  We'll collect till noon and be done by 12:30.  Come make use of this great opportunity to raise funds for the troop AND your scout account.  Earn money for summer camp.

Swim Sessions - Begin next week, with a visit by a VT State diver, and swim safety drills and games at our regular meeting place and time.  Pool sessions at the YMCA begin the following week, for two weeks.  Check the calendar for reminders.

Webelos Visit - Next Wednesday meeting.  Those crossing over from Pack 655 are coming to see what Troop 601 is all about, sharing a meeting and experiencing our activites.  Please present yourselves appropriately.

Family Fun Night - At Friendly's Restaurant, to support our charter organization Colchester Lions Club.  Go out to dinner that night, Monday, January 23, with your family between 5 and 8 pm.  Friendly's will donate 10% of the meal proceeds to the Lions. 

Scout Show - Saturday, Feb 11.  We will take all your ideas and cooperatively come up with the plan for the project.  Stay tuned.

Pancake Breakfast - March 19.  Mr. Claremont will begin planning.  Scouts should begin thinking of their plans, as well.

Bottle Drive - Moved from THIS Saturday (Jan 7) to NEXT Saturday,(Jan 14).  This will benefit individual scouts and the troop.

Family Life Merit Badge Seekers - Session #3 is scheduled for NEXT week.  Be sure to bring in your work materials and plan to move ahead with this Eagle required Merit Badge.

Troop Ski Trip - Moved from Jan 21 to a date as yet unknown, probably sometime during the Feb/March vacation.

Petra Cliffs - THIS SATURDAY
.  1:00 to 4:00,  meet at the Petra facility.  Bring the signed waiver form.  Active wear, sweats, sneakers are recommended.  Dress in layers.  Bring a water bottle.  Everyone goes through a short belaying lesson so be there on time.  Sounds like fun ...

Holiday Party - NEXT WEDNESDAY 6:00 to 9:00  at Pizza Putt.  Find your own transportation.

Dues - Are overdue now.  If you want to use your scout account, let us know.  If not, please bring in a check as soon as possible.

Lions Santa Breakfast - is this Saturday, December 10.  Plan to be there at 7:30.  The event winds down by 11:30.

Petra Cliffs - is the following Saturday, December 17.  It will run 12:00 to 4:00, or so.

Holiday Party - Wednesday, December 21, 5:30 at Pizza Putt.  The Troop will sport food and putting.  Your money buys arcade or laser tag.

Popcorn - There is some left over, available for purchase. Five 15-pack Unbelievable Butter @ $13.00,  Eight Caramel w/ Peanuts @ $8.00 each.  If you do take it to sell or purchase, please let an adult know.

Top District Sales - Billy V took home a nice GPS receiver as his prize for Top District Sales.

Popcorn - Pick up your material from Mrs. Bugbee's garage.  Make sure to deliver it all in a timely manner.  Please bring in outstanding funds and proceeds by next week's meeting.

Volts&Jolts Presentation  - Was a Blast.  Thank you to Judy McCullen from IBM for putting on such an entertaining event.

Veterans Day Parade - Is this coming Saturday, November 5.  All those planning to march in the parade should plan to meet up with others prior to journeying to Vergennes.  Or meet up at the Vergennes High School prior to the 11:00am parade start time.

POPCORN PICKUP - has been completed.  You should pick up your orders from Mrs. Bugbee's garage as soon as possible.  Use the copy of your order forms to figure out how many of each item you need to deliver.  Pick these items up from the garage as soon as possible. You don't have a happy customer until they have the product.

Camporee Planning - Next troop meeting is devoted to planning this outing.  Anyone needing to satisfy meal planning, grubmaster and camp cooking requirements is encouraged to participate.  This is a great opportunity to meet some requirements ...

Cooking Cook-Off - A spirited and tasty competition was won by the Green Moose patrol for their visually pleasing pie presentation.  Great teamwork was exhibited by all and the results from all three pies were judged to be very tasty.

Volts& Jolts -  will be held October 26 in place of the regular troop meeting.  Plan to meet at the Colchester Middle School  that night.  Cub Scouts are invited to this activity.  Adults are welcome, as well.

Veterans Day Parade - Come to the next meeting prepared to sign up for the parade.  It happens Saturday, November 5, in Vergennes.  We will meet at 10:00 at the parade kickoff location, the Vergennes Union High School .

Patrol Names - Welcome the Green Moose, the existing Flying Eagles and the newly named Wolves patrols.

Cooking Competition - Next week's meeting includes the actual cook-off and competition judging.  Invite your parents to come.  It is a parent night on the calendar.  Meeting will go on as planned, possibly at the Firehouse.

Popcorn - Sale wraps up next week.  Bring your forms and envelopes in to the next meeting.

Popcorn Blitz Day - To qualify for Troop level or individual level prizes, the troop must sell as an organized unit on this day, and totals must be called in to the designated phone number so that the information can get to the Council Kernals in order that top selling Troops and individuals may be determined.  So ...

All those participating in the Popcorn Blitz Sale activity will meet at the Firehouse at 9:30 on Saturday morning, October 1, where we will divide up the town as best fits and  make the best effort to maximize popcorn sales.

By  5:00pm on Saturday, call in your sales totals to the following phone number: 879-8917, and leave a message or convey your information giving your name and the total amount of pocporn sales, in dollars, you have amassed since the the beginning of the sale, up to and including the end of Pocporn Blitz Day.  This means any popcorn sales you have earned since the District sale began, September 17.

Council will then add up all the information and report the top sellers and award the prizes.

Community Service / Campout Weekend - Meet at the firehouse at 8:30 in preparation for a Katrina Relief Bottle Drive.  At noon we will muster at Camp Holy Cross for lunch.  At Holy Cross, we will renovate a section of hiking trails.  Make sure to pack a pair of work gloves if you have them.  Long pants, good shoes, bring water.  Be Prepared. Plan on tent camping Saturday night.  Pickup at Holy Cross at 10:00 Sunday morning.

Popcorn Sale - Is in full force.  Ramping up to Blitz Day, October 1.  Until then, keep your salesman cap on.  Think about new places to drum up sales.  Extra copies of the No One Home letter form are available from the link on the Home Page.

Fall Camporee Signup - Branbury State Park, October 21-23.  Signup sheets are available at the weekly meetings.

Troop Meeting, September 7, 2005
Patrol Shuffles - Flaming Arrows and Dragons have combined to form the GREEN MOOSE.  Go, moose, Go! The KNeagles are close to a new name.  Stay tuned. The Flying Eagles soar on.

Cooking Competition Judges needed -  Ask your parents to judge.  This is a patrol competition during our upcoming Cooking sessions, in October.

Court of Honor - Next week, Food assignments desserts: KNeagles, drinks/desserts: Green Moose, snacks: FLying Eagles

Merit Badge Notes - Those of you that had been working on either the Chemistry or Communications Merit Badge, Mr. Lamothe will continue the program, so see him to follow through with these badges.


First Troop Meeting will be September 7, 2004
 


PLC meetings - will be held on the first Tuesday of every month.  Patrol Leaders are expected to attend.  If you cannot be there, contact your assistant patrol leader to fill in for you.

Parent Meetings - will be on the troop calendar.  Remind your parents to try to attend these meetings.
