Mt. Norris Summer Camp Wrap-up - A great time was had by
all. Leadership reports that the scout group worked well together
and great rewards were a result. For the 31st year in a row,
Troop 601 earned the
Clean Sweep Award,
once again, a credit to Mr. Nickerson's drive, initiative and incentive
leadership. To top it off, Troop 601 earned the
Outstanding Troop Award, recognizing
the overall effort the troop put forth in making this session of Mt.
Norris summer camp a time to be remembered by all who attended.
National Jamboree
- This week marks the send-off of Troop601's contingent to National
Jamboree 2005. Good Luck and best wishes for a great time.

MAKE SURE TO DO THIS BEFORE FRIDAY, JULY 8
Also, if you desire a troop photograph, please remit $10.00 to Mrs.
Francis at the same time as you deliver your medical form.

- Climbing Activity. $10.00 - $15.00 per person. We'll need
some folks trained on the belaying lines. Think about how we
schedule and fund this during patrol corners.

- Three hours of work yielded participating scouts $30.00 each.
Spring Camporee
- Location to be determined, but scheduled for May 13-15. Look
for the sign-up.

Boy Scout Show at
the University Mall - Saturday, February 12, 2005. The
annual Boy Scout Show at the University Mall. This year the
Colchester Troop (601) will be manning a booth about the Space
Exploration Merit Badge. The bulk of this merit badge is model
rocketry. There is a section on the history and who's who of
space exploration. The troop is trying to put together an impressive
display of model, mid, and high power rockets. See any adult to
sign up to help.
Pancake Breakfast
Sign-up - Make sure to sign up for a slot of participation in
the upcoming annual pancake breakfast fundraiser. Sign-up sheets
will be available at the next few troop meetings.
Orienteering Trip
Participants - Those of you needing sign-off, measure an object,
height of a pole or tree. Show an adult you know how to do
that. Then get signed off.
Ski Trip -
Smuggs during vacation. We need one adult to help with ticket
handling. Pre-signup, pre-pay if you are coming. Sign up
will be up at next meeting. Lessons will be available for
intrepid ski newbies.
Scout Week -
Next week, when we celebrate Scouting's birthday, starts off with Scout
Sunday, this Sunday. Wear your uniform proudly to church.
Winter Trek -
is March 4,5 and 6. $35.00 fee includes lodging and food. This
will be FUN. Sign-up will start at the next meeting.

Bottle Drive - Next Saturday,
January 15, meet at Firehouse at 09:00hrs. Please join us to pull
together an effort to support the Tsunami Relief effort. Our
proceeds will be donated directly to the effort.
Swim Date -
Next Wednesday, January 12, at the Burlington YMCA. We will offer
the annual Swim Test requirement We will leave from UMS at 6:30
pm sharp! Please meet at the school a little before then.
We can figure rides and carpools then. Anybody desiring to travel
independantly is welcome to do so; please be at the Y by 6:45 and plan
to pick up at 8:15. Carpools will be back at UMS by 8:30.
The following week's meeting will also be at the Y under the same
schedule and format.
Polar Bear Camping
- The late January date is not going to work out. We will
re-schedule this for March. Keep your eyes on the calendar.
Compass Course Crew
- If you need to get signed off on the 5 mile hike see any of the
adults with your book. If you did the one mile course, or need to
sign off on the map orientation requirement, or the 1A requirement, see
any of the senior scouts that participated.
Physical Fitness
Badge aspirants - Only two 12 week plans have been submitted so
far. There are 20 of you potentially seeking this badge.
Mr. Lamothe awaits you plans. Go for this Eagle requirement !!!
Pancake Breakfast
- is March 13th. We need a team of at least four scouts to help
organize this event, in addition to scouts serving on the Big
Day. Sign up with Mr. Coolidge. This is the big fundraiser
of the season. Get psyched.

At the Univesrity Mall, February 12, demonstrate or display a favorite
scouting activity to encourage scouting participation.

Popcorn Blitz Day -
As many Scouts, in uniform, out selling popcorn on October 2.
Great visibility for Scouts all over Vermont. Even if you are not
out selling that day, please call in
your accumulated sales amounts to
our Blitz Commanders, Mr. & Mrs. Weissenstein, by 4:00 pm on
Saturday. The number is in the book. These totals will be
collected District wide, and the
troop with the highest amount sold will earn a substantial portion of
the funds. Scouts with the highest amounts sold will win
prizes: A Galileo telescope, a Coleman tent or a Coleman
sleeping bag.
Push Cars -
Race is pushed back one week (no pun intended). Plan on finishing
the cars at next week's meeting. The big race is October 13.
Battleship Cove -
There are over 20 signed up. A short meeting at next week's
meeting will finalize the date for the trip.

Battleship Cove
- Signup is still in place, but will be closed soon in order to firmly
book our reservation. If you want to go (May 28), sign up NOW.
Rocketry -
Team America Rocketry Challenge. If you are interested, see your
school science teacher. Tell them to go to the NAR web page for
details. Teams may be formed to compete for great sums of money.
National Jamboree
- The wait list is NOT very long. Prior history shows that there
is still a good chance to make the trip. If you are interested in
Jamboree but think it is too late to sign up, see an adult for help in
getting on the waiting list.
Communications Merit
Badge - Class will be offered after troop meetings over the next
few weeks. Sign up next week for this Eagle required badge.
Push Cars -
Get your acts together to make sure that parts and tools are ready for
next week's meeting.
Hurricane Relief
Efforts - The devastation is enormous. The relief agencies
need as much help as possible. Consider donating anything of use
(money, food, tools, clothes, etc.) to these efforts. The two
main agencies on the job are the Salvation Army and the Red
Cross.

scout interest to rustle up required adult coverage and
volunteerism. There is a District Camporee later in October which
migh work out. Stay tuned...

- is next week. Patrols have been assigned various snack

summer camp merit badges to be handed out.
